#fresnel
How the share of light a surface reflects grows with the angle. Looking straight at glass or water, little is reflected and you see through it; looking across it at a low angle, nearly all of it is reflected. Schlick's approximation is the usual shortcut: f0 + (1 − f0)(1 − cos θ)⁵, where f0 is the share reflected head on.
